Applications are invited to apply for the post of a Consultant Geriatrician with an interest in Ortho-Geriatrics at Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic colleague to join our dynamic team of seven Geriatricians, including two Stroke Physicians, and a team of specialty nurses. This is a new post aimed at advancing our service for older people admitted with trauma and undergoing orthopaedic surgery, particularly those with hip fracture.
Applicants should hold a CCT in Geriatric Medicine and General Internal Medicine or be within 6 months of CCT at the interview date.
Dorset County Hospital is in Dorchester and is surrounded by the beautiful Dorset countryside but also has easy access to London. The Trust is part of the One Dorset concept whereby along with the two other major hospitals in the county (Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch NHS Foundation Trust and the Poole Hospital Trust) we work as a network. The Trust offers a comprehensive range of acute services, with a bed-base of 365 and serves a population of 240,000 people in West Dorset.
As an ambitious organization, we are continuously looking for ways to enhance and improve the services that we offer patients. We are in the exciting process of expanding our Geriatric Consultant workforce to meet with the increasing demand of earlier specialty review of frail inpatients
The appointee to this post will join the Ortho-Geriatrics team and have the support of a full complement of junior doctors plus two recently appointed Advanced Nursing Practitioners. The job offers the exciting opportunity to enhance the comprehensive assessment and optimal management of the medical care of orthopaedic in-patients including during the peri-operative phase, providing continuity of senior Geriatric Medicine care and improving patient outcomes. The post holder will also have the opportunity to participate in our evolving Acute Frailty Pathway.
We have an excellent academic programme for the junior doctors in the Orthopaedic Department and the Medical Directorate, which attracts medical students from Southampton and Bristol and Physicians Associates. The successful applicant will be encouraged to attain a formal Educational Supervisor role and will be supported to achieve full ES status with the GMC.
