The Friends of DCH are looking for Weekend Trolley Volunteers to join their existing community of volunteers. This is a really important role and we are looking for volunteers who can help with the trolley round at weekends. If you enjoy talking to people and could spare some time out of your weekend this could be for you. You don’t have to commit to every weekend, for example you could do 1 or 2 a month.
The patients really look forward to seeing our volunteers for a chat and to buy things, mainly newspapers. It is an ideal opportunity for students looking to work in a hospital environment, those looking to give something back to their community or for people who have recently retired, new to the area etc.
We ideally need 3 people each day, one to push the “Newspaper” trolley, one for “Main” trolley and one person to open doors and guide the main trolley and help with sales.
Initial training will be carried out by “Trolley Trainers”. These are long-standing volunteers who will work with you to ensure you are fully trained.
All volunteers will have a local induction on their first day with the Manager. You will also need to attend the full Trust Induction progamme, there is a requirement for all new Trust employees and volunteers to attend this training. This training is mandatory and MUST be completed within 3 months of starting work. Volunteers are also required to do a 2 hour refresher training session annually.
Shift time – Approximately 8am – 11am, Saturday and Sunday
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
